• Screenings

Children grow and change rapidly through the early years. A screening each year prior to kindergarten helps parents know if their child is developing within the normal range for his or her age.

The Ages and Stages Questionnaire Screening (3 months - 5 1/2 years)

Parents as Teachers use the Ages and Stages (ASQ) questionnaire during home visits.  This is a developmental screening tool that pinpoints developmental progress in children between the ages of 3 months to 5 ½ years.  Its success lies in the parent-centric approach and inherent ease-of-use, a combination that has made it the most widely used developmental screener across the globe. The ASQ screening can help identify your child's strengths and any areas where your child may need support.

Screenings help parents celebrate their child’s milestone, know what to look for next, and figure out whether follow-up steps are needed.  It's an important first step in identifying if children have delays or disabilities in the critical early years before they start school.

The screening takes approximately 45-60  minutes. This screening is measuring a child's development in the areas of:

    1. Speech and Language
    2. Motor Skills
    3. General Knowledge
    4. Hearing
    5. Vision

    The DIAL-4 Developmental Screening (3 years - 5 1/2 years)

Fox Early Childhood uses the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning (DIAL-4) to assess across three domains:

    1. Motor
    2. Concepts
    3. Language.

This screening is appropriate for ages three (3) years to Pre-Kindergarten. Skills measured by the DIAL-4 are proven to help predict a child’s success in the classroom.  The DIAL-4 screening test can help parents and teachers decide if a child’s skills are appropriate for his/her age or if further testing or interventions are needed.  This information can help with planning the child’s education and, if necessary, can help parents and teachers address any needs the child may have at home or school.    The DIAL-4 provides scores that show how the child’s developmental skills compare with those of a national norm group- a group of typical children from across the United States who are the same age as the child.

The screening takes approximately 60–90 minutes and will include a vision/hearing assessment.

    Notes

    • One (1) annual screening appointment per child is available to families registered in the Fox  School District. Screenings are  funded by The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Fox School District.
    • If the Fox School District is closed due to inclement weather, screening appointments will be canceled for that day.
