Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why was the District Framework for Student Success created?
In accordance with Board Policy JHD and the Missouri School Improvement Plan 6 (Teaching and Learning Standard 4; Objective C and Teaching and Learning Standard 7; Objective F), the district is required to implement Social Emotional Learning into the teaching process. Supporting our students in this particular set of skills will help them be successful in school, career, and life when they graduate from the Fox C-6 School District.
-
Are there specific lessons integrated into the Framework for Student Success?
No. Specific lessons have not been created to teach the Framework for Student Success.
-
How is the Framework for Student Success integrated into Fox C-6 classrooms?
Many of the objectives identified in the Framework have been integrated into our schools through Counseling Lessons, and day-to-day interactions for years. This practice is not new and will not change. The objectives identified by the committee are "Look fors" at each grade level. There are no particular lessons aligned to the work. It is just how we do business. When we see a student engaged in positive behaviors - we celebrate it. When we see a student struggling to practice appropriate intra- or interpersonal skills, we support it.
-
What resource was used to identify the five competencies that guide the work of the Framework?
The five nationally-recognized competencies were identified by Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning, a multi-disciplinary network including researchers, educators, practitioners, and child advocates. Their work is evidence-based, backed by research, and recognized by educational institutions across the country, including the Missouri School Boards’ Association.
-
How was the Framework Designed?
A team of Fox C-6 counselors, social workers, teachers, parents, students, and administrators came together to review the nationally-recognized competencies and create goals and grade-level objectives to support the social and emotional development of our students. The framework was designed to be specific to the needs of our students and schools and to align with the values of the Fox C-6 community. Collaboratively, with families, the framework is intended to support students with the skills to be successful.
-
Is the Framework for Student Success just the NEA model copied and pasted for our students?
The five nationally-recognized competencies we utilize are utilized across the country. However, the goals and objectives were created by the Fox C-6 team of parents, counselors, social workers, teachers, students, and administrators.
-
Has the published version of the Framework for Student Success been finalized?
The Framework for Student Success is being piloted in the 2022-2023 school year. The Framework will be reviewed and revised regularly to ensure that it meets the current needs of Fox C-6.
