Transportation Update - 7/24/2023
Fox C-6, like many school districts in our area and across the country, continues to experience an unprecedented workforce shortage, especially with bus drivers. Despite aggressively working to hire and retain bus drivers, we have been unable to fill all of our openings for bus drivers. As we approach the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, we have approximately 7 fewer bus drivers than we had at the beginning of the last school year.
Despite this bus driver shortage, our goal remains the same: to provide safe, efficient bus transportation for as many Fox C-6 students as possible. With that being said, we will not be able to provide bus service for all Fox C-6 students at the beginning of the school year. At this time, bus routes have not been finalized, as we are still transitioning to our new student information system, Infinite Campus. However, our transportation department has developed projected no-transportation zones that impact many of our schools. Maps of these no-transportation zones can be found on the Transportation section of the District website. Please note that at this time these no-transportation zones are projections and they may change before bus routes are finalized.
PROJECTED NO-TRANSPORTATION ZONES
The unfortunate but necessary decision to limit bus service is not based on the district’s finances. Fox C-6 has funds budgeted and the school buses needed to provide transportation. We just do not have enough drivers. This is the unfortunate reality facing other schools in our area and school districts across the country.
As we get closer to the first day of school, more detailed communication will be sent to families who are directly impacted by these no-transportation zones. We wanted to share an update with all families with all of the information we have available to us at this time.
In the weeks remaining before the first day of school, we will continue to work to hire additional bus drivers to make our bus routes more efficient to reduce the no-transportation zones as much as possible. If you or someone you know is interested in working as a bus driver, please contact our Transportation Department at (636)296-5331.
The school start time and end time have been slightly adjusted for the following schools to allow for more students to receive bus transportation.
-
Fox Elementary and Rockport Heights Elementary: 7:40 am - 2:40 pm
-
Sherwood Elementary and Simpson Elementary: 8:10 am -3:10 pm
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s school or the transportation department at (636)296-5331.
