Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why is Fox C-6 instituting no transportation zones for the 2022-2023 school year?
Fox C-6 is experiencing a severe bus driver shortage and we are unable to transport the number of students we have been able to in years past. We want to emphasize that this is not a financial decision. Fox C-6 has the school buses and the budget to provide transportation. We just do not have enough drivers to transport all students.
-
What guidelines are used to determine no-transportation zones?
Students who reside fewer than 3.5 miles from their school may receive transportation based on neighborhood enrollments, bus routes, travel direction, bus capacity, and accessibility. Students who live more than 3.5 miles from their school will be eligible for transportation.
-
Is there a requirement that the district provides transportation for my child?
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has guidelines that require school districts to provide transportation for students who live more than 3.5 miles from school.
-
Is this change permanent?
As Fox C-6 hires additional bus drivers, we will re-evaluate bus routes.
-
In the past, my child has received bus service to and from a childcare provider within the no-transportation zone. Will they still ride the bus to and from their childcare provider?
Childcare providers inside the no-transportation zones will not have bus service. Childcare providers who will no longer receive transportation services have been notified.
-
Are there any options for before and after school care?
Our Character Kids Club before and after school care program provides students in grades K-5 with fun, safe, and engaging activities during the hours before and after school. Programs are located at all 11 elementary schools.
Character Kids Club is currently at capacity. Should additional spots become available, families will be notified.
-
How many students can be transported on a school bus?
The operator of a school bus can transport no more children than the manufacturer suggests. Fox C-6 utilizes school buses with a manufacturer-suggested capacity of 71 students. However, we set a desired capacity rate that is both efficient and comfortable for students. Our desired capacity is up to 60 elementary students and 48 secondary students
