Late Start Schedule FAQs

School will start one hour later than normal on late start days. The chart below shows each school's late start time.

Late start days will occur on 29 Wednesdays throughout the school year, beginning in September and ending in April. All late start days will be noted on the Board-approved district calendar. This date range was chosen to provide consistency in late start days and to maximize the effectiveness of late start days.

The first late start day will be Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

No. Late start days will not be rescheduled to another day if there is a snow day on that day.
 

No. Late start days are set aside for data review. Professional development and curriculum work would happen as it does now.

 Late start days will be dedicated to teacher collaboration for the purpose of improving student achievement through:

• Data-Driven Decision-Making:  Educators will analyze student data together, enabling them to make informed decisions about instruction and interventions.
• Improved Targeted Instruction: Students will benefit from improved targeted instruction.
• Collaboration:  Teachers have dedicated time to collaborate with colleagues and share best practices based on student achievement data.
• Aligned Curriculum (CSIP Goal):  Teachers have time to make sure all students understand the curriculum and to have discussions around pacing.

Child supervision will be available from a school’s normal arrival time until class starts on late arrival days. District employees will provide this supervision at no cost.

Students will arrive via their regular mode of transportation on late start days (bus, parent drop off, etc.).

No. Buses will run on a late start schedule on these days, meaning that students will be picked up one hour later than normal on late start days. If students need to arrive at school at their normal time for childcare, families will need to drop students off on those days.

No. Fox C-6 does not project any cost savings or additional expenditures under a late-start schedule. The purpose of a late-start schedule is to give educators dedicated time to collaborate on student achievement data.

Students will participate in grade-level appropriate academic activities. Types of activities may include, but are not limited to: iReady, IXL, silent reading, online academic programming, homework, and other academic activities.

In order to properly staff our schools and plan activities, families with students in elementary and middle schools will be asked to submit a weekly form if they plan to utilize the free childcare before school on Wednesdays.

Yes, breakfast will be available for students on late start days. Breakfast rates apply.

Both Fox High School and Seckman High School will be shifting to a modified block schedule in the 2026-2027 school year. Families should be on the lookout for more information from their principals soon.

The middle schools will adjust class times on late start Wednesdays to accommodate the shorter school day.

Elementary schools will adjust class times on late start Wednesdays to accommodate the shorter school day.

There will be 29 late start days in the 2026-2027 school year. Late start days will begin on September 16, 2026, and go until the week of April 28, 2027. 

The total minutes of the school week are decreasing, which is reflected in the daily schedule/IEP minutes for a student.  However, the percentage of time a student receives services will be consistent with the student's IEP from this school year.

Late start days will help to provide consistency throughout the district for structured staff collaboration time.

No. Jefferson College ATS and other out-of-district career and technical education programs would maintain the same daily start time. Students will be responsible for getting to Fox or Seckman High School to catch the bus each day. 
 

Late start will not impact the arrival time of CKC on late start days. CKC will be available at the same start time, 6:15 am, as it is on any other day of the school year. The additional hour of student care will also not be at any extra cost to families.

Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, Don Earl ECC students will attend school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday each week. Wednesdays will be a non-attendance day for Don Earl students.

Beginning with the 2026-2027 school year, REACH will operate on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday each week. Wednesdays will be used for classroom visits, student observations, testing, and PLC time.

Building Blocks will not be impacted at all during late start days. Building Blocks classrooms will continue their normal daily arrival and dismissal times as they do on any other day. There will not be a late start time for Building Blocks classrooms. 

 No. Classified staff members will work the same schedule on Wednesdays. Some staff members will be assigned to assist with student supervision during collaboration time.

No, there will still be professional development days in the school calendar.  Professional development days focus on staff learning around best practices, curriculum, resources, district initiatives, etc.  Late start days focus on analyzing data to close achievement gaps or to provide enrichment opportunities.

Teachers who don’t have other teachers in their building who teach the same classes will have opportunities to PLC virtually and have scheduled in-person PLC time throughout the school year. The district recognizes that there are a variety of singleton teachers and staff members around the district. Principals and supervisors will work with specific staff members to develop a plan for effective use of PLC time.

PLCs will run from the beginning of a staff member’s contracted time for one hour. 

No. PLC time will end 20 minutes before the start of the school day.
